The Ultimate Guide to Camel Paint Building: Thrifting, History & Eats Meta Description: Explore Kwun Tong's famous Camel Paint Building. Discover its industrial history, best lunch spots (Slow Cook House), and the hidden gem for secondhand fashion: Greenies Consignment Platform
If you are looking for a unique shopping experience in Hong Kong, forget the polished malls of Central. The real treasure hunt happens in Kwun Tong's Camel Paint Building (駱駝漆大廈).
Famous for its maze of outlet shops, hidden cafes, and buzzing industrial vibe, this building is a landmark of Hong Kong's transformation. Here is your guide to exploring Block 3, from its history to the best eats and—of course—thrifting.
1. A Bit of History: From Paint to Preloved
Before it became a shopping hub, the Camel Paint Building was exactly what the name suggests—a paint factory. Built in the 1980s by the "National Lacquer and Paint Products Co," it was the heart of Hong Kong's manufacturing boom.
The "Camel" brand was famous for its vibrant colors and high-quality lacquer found in homes across the city. Today, the factory machines are gone, but the industrious spirit remains. The cavernous spaces that once mixed paint are now home to Greenies Consignment, where we mix old and new fashion to create a circular economy.
2. Where to Eat: Slow Cook House (慢煮屋)
Shopping works up an appetite. Camel Paint is famous for its "hidden door" restaurants, and one of our favorites is Slow Cook House.
- The Vibe: Tucked away on a high floor, it offers a chill escape from the busy streets of Kwun Tong.
- The Food: As the name suggests, they specialize in sous-vide meats. Their slow-cooked steak and pork belly rice bowls are incredibly tender and affordable—a perfect example of the "high quality, low price" gems you find in industrial buildings.
- Location: Block 3 (Look for the queue during lunch hours!)
3. Where to Shop: Greenies Consignment
No trip to Camel Paint is complete without a visit to Greenies (Shop 3A, 3/F). We are one of the few shops in the building dedicated entirely to sustainable, secondhand fashion.
Unlike the fast-fashion outlets downstairs, every item at Greenies has a story. From vintage designer bags to high-street staples, we curate preloved items that are clean, stylish, and sustainable. It’s the modern way to treasure hunt in a historic setting.
